My Garden

Since we don't have Buck the Bulldog digging up our back yard, I decided to take on the job myself and plant a vegetable garden. I call it an experiment because I don't really know what I'm doing, and I started this with very little expectation of a great harvest.

I tilled my little spot on Maundy Thursday, and I planted all my seeds on Good Friday (April 10th). For the most part, I followed the directions on the seed packets. I made hills for my squash & cucumbers, and rows for everything else. But I didn't really follow the instructions for spacing. Ben didn't want me digging up all the grass in our yard, so it's a very small garden!

I planted seeds of lettuce, onions, carrots, cucumbers, squash, watermelon, sweet peas, green beans, lima beans, & tomatoes. I also had some old potatoes that I cut up & put in the ground -- just to see what would happen. (That little circle of rocks is around a termite bait station. It almost got lost when I was tilling.)

By April 22nd, almost everything (except the potatoes) had wonderful little sprouts!
